Big Orange Pumpkin Farm

Fall has always been my favorite season.  I love the weather, the smells, the colors and the anticipation of the fun holidays ahead.  Unfortunately living in Texas doesn't give me much of that fall feeling.  The landscape is not the prettiest and it is not unusual to still have a few 100 degree days in October.  There are a few places around our house that help me to forget that I live in an area that doesn't have much of a fall and one of those places is the Big Orange Pumpkin Farm.  We go every year and it never disappoints with photo ops, lots of pumpkins and a fun hayride.  I will admit that I was a little confused the first time we went because I was expecting a real pumpkin farm like I was used to in St. Louis, but I have gotten used to a pumpkin farm that ships their pumpkins in from elsewhere. :)  A week or so before Halloween, we woke up to a beautiful Sunday morning and decided it would be a great day for a pumpkin farm visit.  The boys had spent the night before with friends and didn't want to come with us (like I said, they love their friends!) so Jay and I just went with the girls and enjoyed a relaxing day.  Our first stop was to feed the animals that they have at the farm.  Landrie loved this part because she loves anything animal related.  The feeding only lasted so long though because being barnyard animals, they smelled like it too!

Before we went on the hayride, we decided to grab a bite to eat.  While Daddy waited in line, I snapped some pictures of the girls.

While we were eating our hotdog lunch, Ella made her self comfy on Daddy's legs.  I snapped this picture and it is one of my new faves!

There are a bunch of wooden yard decorations around the farm and there were some pilgrims and a turkey right by us.  The girls were running around them and wanted their picture taken with their new friends.  Ella kind of laid on top of her pilgrim friend, but whatever.  Landrie decided to be a turkey with her silly face!

And since Daddy was with us, I got a rare picture with my babies! yay!

The farm was pretty busy the day we went so we had to wait a bit for our turn on the hayride.  Luckily there is lots of area to run, so the girls kept themselves busy.  They chased each other around the trees and did some posing on top of a tornado shelter.

Ella got tired and wanted Daddy to hold her.  She was giving him lots of loves, so you know I had to snap a pic!

(pay no attention to the beard...it was part of a contest and is gone now! haha)

After our hayride, we let the girls run around some more while we sat and enjoyed the nice weather.  There were a lot of HUGE grasshoppers around and for some reason Ella was obsessed with them.  She is so not my child when it comes to this! She kept bending down to look at them and I was waiting for one to jump at her, but it never happened.  Daddy found a dead grasshopper hanging out under a tree and decided to give it to Ella.  Gross I know! She was totally in love with is and held it in her little hand while she rubbed its back.  She just thought it was sleeping and was so gentle.  Landrie is not a fan of bugs or frogs or anything gross like that (I don't know where she gets it) so I was surprised when she went over to Ella to get a closer look at the pet grasshopper.

She started asking questions about it and I guess Ella was afraid that her pet was going to be kidnapped, so she turned to tell Landrie to leave her a lone.  Well I guess Landrie thought that Ella was going to throw the bug on her because she booked it outta there! She my friends is sooooo my child!

And in typical Ella fashion, she was thrilled to have scared her sister and to be left alone with her little baby pet.

On that note, we put the baby grasshopper to bed back under a tree and left the pumpkin farm...until next year!
